What Makes A Perfume Feel Like A Date-Night Scent?

"Gone on a Date," reads the label. The red bottle, sparkling sleeve and matching manicure complete the story.
It is an entire evening compressed into a still life.
The label also names rose and vanilla, offering a starting point for the imagination. Yet the more interesting ingredient in this photograph is expectation: the sense that something enjoyable is about to happen.
That may explain why the idea of a date-night fragrance is so appealing. It gives a bottle an occasion and turns choosing it into part of getting ready. Alongside the clothes and the music playing in the background, perfume helps set the mood.
But there is no single smell that makes someone irresistible, and no reason an evening fragrance has to be dramatic. For one wearer, the right choice might be something familiar and reassuring. For another, it is the bottle they rarely have an excuse to wear.
The useful question is how comfortable you feel in it. A scent you enjoy wearing lets you stop thinking about your perfume and return your attention to the person across the table.
The photograph supplies the glamour. The evening itself can remain unscripted.
